What causes Ulnar Neuropathy
to occur?

Ulnar neuropathy, also known as cubital tunnel syndrome or ulnar nerve entrapment, is a medical condition caused by compression of the ulnar nerve. This is usually found at the elbow but can occur at any point along its path. The ulnar nerve controls movement and sensation in your hand and carries signals to your shoulder and neck muscles.

Hear Cheryl's Vaccine Injury Story

Cheryl suffered SIRVA (shoulder injury related to vaccine administration) following a flu shot. Her vaccine injury claim was filed in the VICP by vaccine lawyer Max Muller where she obtained a large cash settlement for her pain and suffering, lost wages and out of pocket medical expenses.

What is Ulnar Neuropathy?

Ulnar neuropathy is a type of nerve damage usually caused by compression or entrapment of the ulnar nerve. This can occur due to a pressure buildup or direct nerve injury. It can happen due to constant and repetitive movements that compress the arm against a hard surface, such as sitting with your arms on an armrest for long periods. Positioning the wrist in certain sports or hobbies, such as golf, also increases the risk of nerve compression. Other common causes include diabetes, tumors, traumatic injuries, and heavy drinking.

Common Side Effects of Ulnar Neuropathy

Common side effects of ulnar neuropathy include:

  • Numbness
  • Tingling
  • Weakness
  • Instability in the ring and little fingers
  • Pain and discomfort may be felt in the fingertips or from the elbow down to the wrist.
  • Decreased grip strength
  • Elbow pain
  • Muscle weakness in your forearm and hand.

Can vaccines cause Ulnar Neuropathy?

There is no definitive vaccine that causes ulnar neuropathy. However, it has been speculated that receiving multiple shots in the same area of the body over time may increase a person's chances of developing this condition.

Vaccines that contain aluminum, such as diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (DTaP) and hepatitis B (HepB), are known to be risk factors for ulnar neuropathy due to their interactions with nerve cells. Other high-risk vaccines include human papillomavirus (HPV), some flu shots, and the Shingles vaccine.

Diagnosing and Treating Ulnar Neuropathy

Diagnosing and treating ulnar neuropathy typically begins with a physical examination by a doctor. During the exam, the doctor may test reflexes, sensation, muscle strength, and other signs of nerve damage. Imaging tests like X-rays or ultrasounds can identify any compressed nerves in the area. Treatment for ulnar neuropathy typically involves rest and compression dressings to reduce pressure on the nerve. Medications or surgery are sometimes recommended to relieve pain or restore nerve function.

How We Can Help With Your Ulnar Neuropathy Claim

Injuries from vaccines can change your life, and you may be qualified to receive financial compensation through the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP). After lawsuits against vaccine companies and healthcare providers in the 1980s threatened to reduce U.S. vaccination rates and cause a resurgence of vaccine-preventable diseases, the VICP was created. At My Vaccine Lawyer, our team can help you file a claim and guide you through the entire process with the VICP if you have suffered from vaccine-related injuries.
